Join SDJACL for a Community Dialogue about the Impacts of Dementia, Thursday Jan 13
Monthly San Diego JACL Virtual Community Dialogue: Jan 13 Thurs 6:30 - 8:00 pm
The purpose of our SDJACL monthly dialogues are to share thoughts, experiences and information to help build community. At our last dialogue the topic of dementia came up as a topic of importance to the Japanese American community.
Meet Jonathan Yokoyama, SDJACL board member, who will share his story about how his mom developed dementia and the impact dementia and long-term care had on the entire family. This will be followed by discussion and how it is important to think and plan ahead to mitigate the financial and other impacts illness and injury can have on the individual and the family.
Illness and injury are the cause of 60% of personal bankruptcies due to direct costs and time out of work. Many individuals are seen in the Emergency Department unable to speak. It then falls upon the family to make oftentimes difficult decisions regarding care.
